Are there additional forms/types of benchmarking that you think the organization would benefit from using?

Lets take a look at the use of bench marking in the real world. Use the online library to find a newspaper or journal article that discusses the use of bench marking for a health care organization. The use of bench marking can relate to any area of health care quality, finance, volume of services, etc.

For your original thread:

Do you think that this use of bench marking is appropriate? If so, why? If not, why not?
Are there additional forms/types of bench marking that you think the organization would benefit from using?

Hello for this statement can you just write a response like 4 sentences your option thanks.

Bench marking–represents the continuous and systematic processes for evaluating products, work practices and services within an organization that is recognized as \”best practices\” for organizational improvement. (Spendolin, 2002)

In my article Financial bench marking was being discussed at Critical Access Hospital. A Critical Access Hospital (CAH) is a hospital that is certified under a specific set of Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoP) and it is structured differently from an acute care hospital CoP. CAH applied 5 benchmarks for 5 different indicators. In order to meet each criteria and to measure CAH financial performance a non-systematic review of articles were done through peer reviewed journals, industry publications and practitioner journals so as to identify ratios which would be important measures of CAH financial performance.

CAH used this type of benchmark so as to arrive at comparisons with and without Long Term Care, and the national median for each indicator.

I think this use of bench marking is appropriate for Critical Access Hospital (CAH) for it is a continuous systematic approach and it allows for evaluation of its products, services and the organizational work practices that are recognized as \”best practice\” for organizational improvement. This is usually a key component for organizations performance.

CAH is utilizing performance bench marking and it is geared toward overall long term goals and enhancements of CAH. I do believe that is it is combined with strategic bench marking it would allow for greater financial enrichment for each Critical Access Hospital.

COLLAPSE
Week 5 Bench marking

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems are still in a primitive stage in the United States. The paper I chose for this discussion used peer bench marking to show stakeholders, in order to stay competitive and reduce errors in their healthcare organizations, why it was necessary to adopt an EMR system. Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytic s used their database to survey 4000 hospitals and was able to provide the researchers with valuable healthcare IT to prove their findings. The results in this research paper enable many healthcare providers to see the facts for themselves and be able to make a more educated decision for the facilities.

The researchers involved in writing this paper, had to use peer bench marking, because these systems are so new to the entire healthcare industry. I think there was really was no other way to compare them. I do believe that many organizations benefited this type of bench marking because it proved that these systems not only worked but made organizations stay competitive in their industry. I do not think any other form of bench marking would have convinced healthcare organizations, that it was worth investing so much money into systems, at a time that so many were questioning their success.
