identify and analyze the effects of imperialism and colonialism with reference to linguistic or cultural diversity.

My order must be divided to two parts as the instructions:
Part 1/ Five Article Summaries:
As part of your individual preparation for this interview you need to do some background research. Your goal is to gain some understanding about the country including its colonial past and its current relationship with its former colonizer. Be sure that the books/articles that you select address the following learning objectives
B1: identify and analyze the effects of imperialism and colonialism with reference to linguistic or cultural diversity (e.g. what languages are spoken in the chosen country/dependency? What language was imposed from the colonizing power? How does the imposed language shape thought relative to other indigenous languages?)
B3: identify connections between and differences among local, national, and global communities. (e.g., what role does the chosen country play in the global economy? What products/resources come from that country today? What resources and labor needs did this country fill for the colonizing power or the country that controls it?).
Altogether you should use five sources:
 two academic journal articles
 one book on the country (that book may even be a travel guide)
 one article from a reputable newspaper/magazine such as the New York Times, the New Yorker, the LA Times, Wall Street Journal
 one from a source that is based in the home country (e.g., government-sponsored website, an English language newspaper)
 do NOT use Wikipedia as a source

Submit a 2.5-to-3 page paper (12 point, 1 inch margins, double-spaced, Times New Roman font) summarizing what you have learned from these five sources. Each source needs to be listed in bold heading followed by a half-page summary. The interview examples in your textbook should be used as a guide for the format of your article summaries (e.g., see pp. 20-21). Follow the American Sociological Association style guide for listing journal, magazine, newspaper references which can be found at http://www.calstatela.edu/library/guides/3asa.pdf . Based on what you have learned from these five.
We have made some minor adjustments to interview instructions since publishing these essays. So please make sure that your interview reflects these additions.
Note that the students who wrote the four model interviews published in your textbook were not required to address specific learning objectives. Still the format and types of articles they used are useful for your paper.
Readings, generate 3-5 interview questions in addition to the list of required questions on 3-4 pages in this file. Place your questions at the very end of the summaries.

Part2 Complete Interview Paper (interview, reflection and conclusion, five article summaries):
The interview portion of the paper should be 3-5 typed pages (12 point, 1 inch margins, double-spaced, Times New Roman font). It must be written in an essay/narrative format (Question-Answer format is unacceptable and will receive a failing grade). The list of mandatory questions to ask during the interview is on pages 16-17 of this syllabus.

The interview write-up should end with an additional 1.5-to-2 page conclusion in which you reflect on the three learning objectives that follow. Again, you should use the interview examples in your textbook as a guide. While you may reach some of the same conclusions as the four student authors, you must find a way to make your ideas distinct by integrating specific ideas from your interview into your reflection piece.
B2: consider historical perspectives on the development of various cultures (e.g., how does modernization theory and dependency theory shape your understanding of the colonial/dependency relationship?).
B4: demonstrate how literature and the arts reflect and influence cultures (In what ways has music, movies, literature from home and colonizing country shape the interviewed person’s life? How did music, arts, literature shape what they know about the colonizing power? How do they shape what they thought the United States would be like? How do they shape what others know about their native country?)
E2: show the influence of cultural and socioeconomic background in shaping attitudes and opinions in themselves and others (e.g., think about what your life would have been like if you had been born in the country of the person interviewed. How would your life be shaped by colonial past/dependency? Think about the languages you would speak, what you would learn in school? What kinds of jobs might be open to you? How is life different for the person interviewed as a result of living in the United States?)

This assignment may be done individually or in teams of a maximum of three people, total, of your choice. All team members will receive the same grade.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to learn about how multinational firms address corporate social responsibility in their home countries and abroad. You will employ analytical skills to compare practices by two different firms operating in the US and another country in which they both do business.

Procedure
1. Select the following: (a) a social or environmental issue that you are passionate about; (b) an industry whose activities involve that issue; (c) two multinational companies in that industry, with at least one being a U.S.-headquartered firm; (d) one country in addition to the U.S. in which both companies do business.
2. Research the two companies’ practices in both the U.S. and the other country you have chosen by using as many sources as is feasible, e.g., company, industry, government, and activist/lobby group websites; online and hard copy business and government data bases in the NU library system; newspapers, business journals and magazines; information you obtain from your own inquiries or interviews with any relevant organizations, e.g., company, industry, government, activist/lobby groups. An example is:

3. Prepare a 5-page paper (double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman) plus a cover page and any number of relevant exhibits and references. Number all pages except the cover page. (The page after the cover page will be page 1.)

Structure and Content of the CSR Paper
Cover Page – The cover page should include: a title consisting of the CSR issue, the two companies, and countries being investigated; your name, date, course number, name and class meeting time, and the professor’s name.
Section 1 – Industry and Company Overviews: Briefly describe in a page the issue, industry, and the two companies and the two countries. Details can be provided in exhibits at the end of the paper.
Section 2 – Company Comparisons by Country: Compare the two companies in terms of how they address the specific CSR issue you chose: (a) in the U.S., and (b) in the other country you selected. In analyzing and comparing each firm’s activities regarding the same specific CSR issue in the two countries, utilize the following material from Chapter 7, Global Corporate Citizenship, in Lawrence and Weber (purchase as an ebook online as noted earlier), creating a section for each: (a) Principles of Global Corporate Citizenship (discuss as many of the 20 items in Exhibit 7B, p. 149 as are relevant to the specific CSR issue); (b) Management Systems for CSR; (c) Stages of Corporate Citizenship; (d) Corporate Citizenship in Comparative Perspective; (e) Social Performance Auditing: Global Social Audit Standards, Social and Environmental Reporting, Balanced Scorecard, Triple Bottom Line (select an appropriate subtopic(s) from this section relevant to your CSR issue and each company’s practices).
Section 3 – Conclusion and Recommendations: (a) Give each company grades (A, B, F, etc.) on how well they are addressing the specific CSR issue in both the U.S. and the other country you selected. Provide support for your assessment as well as possible reasons for any differences in dealing with the CSR issue in the two countries; (b) make recommendations for each company regarding the CSR issue.
Section 4 – Exhibits: These will include comparison charts, tables, and other materials that you have created and that you refer to in the text of your paper, as well as additional information you have gathered from various sources to support your analyses and conclusions. Label exhibits, e.g., Exhibit 1: Title.
