Compare and Contrast the film styles of Robert Rodriguez and Terry Gilliam.
It must COMPARE and CONTRAST the style and technique of Robert Rodriguez and Terry Gilliam.
Why do you think these are great directors?
Discuss specifics about style and technique.
Who are their influences and who have they influenced?
I’m looking for Specific shots, scenes, lines of dialog, camera moves, edits, production design decisions, costumes and moments that your director has crafted. I’m looking for what subject matter they’ve chosen and why? In short, tell me – over at least a few films – WHAT they want to say (Style-subject matter)…and HOW they’re saying it (Camera, lighting, editing etc). Be sure to focus NOT on the directors’ biographies. Not just on what their films are “About”. I want you to focus on how the stories are told, not the stories themselves. Remember, its not an English class. It’s a class on the specifics of directing. So Don’t give plot summaries or dwell on themes and messages. Its good to mention a theme, but then dive into HOW that theme is communicated using the tools of directing. Compare the directors’ use of tools as a way to get their points across. What are the points they make and how do they physically achieve them using camera, editing, performance, sound design, production design etc?

Communication research
This assignment uses a similar strategy to the assignment in week one, except that it focuses on quantitative research. You will find another article related to your topic of interest (same topic as week one—do not change topics). Use the library and the same essential process that was described last week, including the preparation of a 600 word paper to submit along with the article that you find (upload 2 documents: your submital and source document). Consult the rubric associated with weekly assignments to see the grading criteria. NOTE: SELECT AN ARTICLE THAT WAS PUBLISHED WITHIN THE LAST TEN YEARS. Avoid articles that contain qualitative research.
DETAILS:
1. Using the same topic you selected in week one, and utilizing a similar research strategy in the online library, find a journal article that presents quantitative scholarly research associated with your topic. Remember that scholarly research involves solving problems. If your article does not use quantitative methodology then you do not have an appropriate research article. For the purposes of this assignment you want to intentionally find a research article that contains quantitative methodology. Consult the Creswell textbook for assistance. Save the article to your computer to have as a reference and also to attach to the professor when your paper is completed.
2. Avid research skills need to be applied in this exercise. In Proquest or EBSCO, make the “Advanced Search” do the work for you. Utilize all three boxes in the search window. For example, if you are trying to identify a scholarly journal with the topic of leadership that has hypotheses or questions identified, then in the first search box use the key word “leadership” in the next search box use the key word “hypotheses” and the last search box use the key word “research question.” . You also may want to do a search and change one of the key words to “quantitative” that produce an article that reports a quantitative study that may have hypotheses and/or research questions associated with the study.
REMEMBER to check the “Scholarly Journal” box and the “Full-text” box. Also, viewing the article in the PDF version will allow a better viewing of the quantitative research article in its entirety.
3. Write a short paper (450-600 words) that demonstrates a brief analysis of the quantitative research article you selected. You are to write your paper in such a way as to answer the questions/issues below. However, do not include the list on your paper. Instead, let the items guide the content expressed in your paper, which should be in typical paragraph form.
•State the research problem or issue in the study.
•State the hypothesis/questions or objectives. Were they stated clearly?
•What questionnaires/survey instruments were used to answer the problem?
•What was the population used in the study? Was there a sample used? If so, how was the sample selected? How many were in the sample?
•What were the statistical techniques (Examples: mean, median, mode, ANOVA, MANOVA, regression analysis, etc.) used to analyze the data?
•Summarize the results. How clearly were the results presented?
•What are the limitations of the study? Are they stated?
•Summarize the conclusion(s). Are the conclusions presented clearly? Does the data support the conclusions? Does the researcher over generalize the findings?
•How can the results and conclusions presented in this study be applied in your particular field of study or work environment?
4. Utilize the APA Helps in the Resources area to help you present your brief paper in APA format, which means that you need to write a Title Page and References Page separate from the body of the text of the paper (no abstract or author note are needed). On this assignment you should write the publication information about your article on the References Page and then also cite the source in the body of the paper when you are stating facts.
NOTE: Do not use macros or automatic referencing in your papers for this course. The auto features usually cause unforeseen problems in format. Plus, part of this course involves the student’s acquisition of the essentials of the APA style format

Define the term “alter-ego”
Research a case that involves alter-ego liability. Define the term “alter-ego” and list the elements the court considered when determining whether to pierce the corporate shield.
In addition, discuss whether it is ethical for a company to move its corporate headquarters overseas to avoid paying income tax. Which duty do you believe is higher, the duty of corporations to pay tax to government or the duty of corporations to pay dividends to shareholders? Why?
Specific Instructions:
1. Paper must be written in a coherent manner.
2. Check grammar and spelling. Very important! Please do not omit words in sentences!
3. Proper in-text citation and references is a must!
4. Do not have headings or titles for paragraphs. Professor deducts points for that.
5. Incorporate the material from the text and support your statements.

Alter Ego
Corporations and limited liability companies offer limited liability to their shareholders and members. This means that if the company is sued the creditor cannot look to the assets of the shareholders in order to satisfy a judgment. If the company does not have sufficient assets to cover the judgment, the creditor is out of luck. The most a shareholder can lose is the amount of money she has invested in the company. However a business owner needs to do more than merely file a form with the secretary of state and create the corporation in order to create this shield of liability protection. If a company is deemed to be one and the same as the business owner, or owners, the court will allow the creditor to pierce the corporate shield. A company that is found to be merely the alter ego of the business owner will not offer any liability protection for the owner. The materials this week will illustrate ways to ensure a company is not operated as the alter ego of the business owner.
Sarbanes Oxley
Most students have heard of the Enron scandal, where egregious accounting practices resulted in the loss of billions of dollars. As a result of this, and other scandals like World-com and Tyco, Congress enacted the Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002. This Act creates strict accounting practices and creates accountability to the CEO and CFO of the financial statements. Penalties for non-compliance are harsh, and include steep fines, imprisonment and the delisting of the company from the stock exchange. All public companies must comply with this Act.
Legal Concepts v. Laws
There is a difference between a general legal concept and a law. An example of a law would be the Sarbanes Oxley Act. This is a federal law: Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, PL 107-204, 116 Stat 745. An example of a general legal concept is alter ego; it will not be found in any federal or state code books. This is a legal concept used to bring liability to a shareholder of a corporation or LLC. For the purposes of this class laws are found (codified) in state statutes, federal statutes, and federal regulations. General legal concepts are not codified.
