In “Breaking the Disney Spell” (on google by Jake Zipes) Zipes offers a careful reading of walt Disney’s early adaptations of folk and fairy tales. Read Hearne’s and Zipes’ essays, paying special attention to Zipes’ analysis of the Disney version of “Puss in Boots” and then analyze a Disney Version of a classic fairy tale comparing it to one of its earlier, written version. you should focus on one full-length Disney adaptation. As we have throughout the term, you should ask of both the written version of the tale and Disney’s adaptation what values are being highlighted, privileged, and communicated. Be prepared to watch and re-watch the film so that you write specifically about the differences between the written version and the adaptation and argue how those difference might suggest specific cultural values. Be sure to cite(In Proper MLA format) both Zipes and Hearne as well as other fairy tale critics in your essay. Be open to the possibility that you might find both confirming and contradictory evidence. Don’t dismiss the contradictory evidence. keep track of it.
