In this posting you will discuss the next level of your topic, which will be the organismal and/or population level.
This will be probably the level you are most familiar with in relationship with your topic. If it is a disease, or a substance lacking or malfunctioning, how does it manifest? If it a nutrient or nutritional supplement, how does it influence the organism? If a food additive, what does it cause in the body? Basically, this is the most visible part of the topic.
What to post?
Organismal aspect
This will mainly refer to topics related to diseases, nutrition-related topics (normal or artificial), or normal components of an organism. Describe how the organism is affected by your topic. Be detailed.
Population aspect
This will mainly refer to topics related to populations, industrial and/or legal processes. Describe how the populations/groups of organisms are influenced/affected by your topic.
Posting instructions
Please submit your posting as a word document attached to your posting (or if you are a google person, submit the link to the google doc- remember to share, allowing people with the link to view). Write in your subject line the title of your topic.
Your document should be min 500-750 words long.
Start your document with an introductory paragraph where you briefly summarize what will you be writing about.
Include two pictures/diagrams/tables, with captions.
Please do not plagiarize (copy paste big chunk of materials). This time I prefer not to run plagiarism-checking software as it is a hassle, but I will check individual submissions if they look suspicious, and if I see plagiarism I may need to do it for the next week. Avoid extensive quotes and try to instead paraphrase (express the idea with your own words).
How far and how deep? Don’t hesitate to be detailed here. Pictures and graphs are welcome.
Be objective: you are not writing an opinion article, but a scientific report.
Refrain from using emotional language
Use serious sources (see reference advice below)
If your topic is controversial, be sure you mention and cite both sides.
Comments
You will have the chance to read more in depth the work of your class mates. Please comment on the postings of three of them, providing:
positive feedback regarding the posting (choice of topic, structure, format, content etc)
a question: either about an aspect not mentioned in the posting, or asking clarification/more info about something posted.
constructive advice about any aspect for the next time.
References
Please list 3 references: ideally peer-reviewed journal articles, books (not including your textbook), and articles from official organizations/databases. Do not use informal web sources, blogs, or newspaper articles.
The list of references from Wikipedia is a good starting point. Also check out Google scholar and the NU library. Please do not use personal blogs and any articles that uses second person (You), as those articles tend to be patient-directed information with a limited content.
