Describe Sports Development Plan.

Module: UK & GLOBAL SPORT IN DEVELOPMENT Module code: SPOR60529 Assessment 1: Sports Development Plan (2,000 words) Weighting: 35% Submission: Hand in to Sport & Exercise reception Monday 11th January 4pm You are a newly appointed Sports Development Officer. One of your first tasks is to analyse existing secondary research on the local area/community you serve in order to identify their needs. You will then research suitable sports development interventions to address the identified needs. Once these have been established you are required to apply to Sport Across Staffordshire for support and funding to put your sports development plan into practice. Using the sports development application form provided on Blackboard, you must complete each section using industry and academic evidence to support your identified needs and interventions. Your plan should focus on one of the following areas: PE, School and Youth Sport Sport and health Sport and disability Sport and crime Sport and girls/women Sport and black and minority ethnic groups In each of the sections of the application form you should provide further details and reasons for your chosen area of development. For example, you would want to expand on the intervention and provide an explanation (using for example, articles, policies, statements from organisations) of why this method will achieve your aim. You should show a depth of knowledge and even include conflicting and contradictory concepts or findings. Whilst you are proposing a project which (you believe) may make a difference (according to the evidence you allude to) you are encouraged to be reflective and analytical, by referring to research which may contradict or question your own arguments and choices. e.g.: Your aim is to reduce Coronary Heart Disease in Stoke on Trent , you may argue that “whilst it has been found by Thomas and Jones (2012) that older people are at greater risk of CHD the project by Barter and Erskine (2013) showed that football lessons for 5 year olds make a significant difference to their long term participation in sport and therefore to a healthy lifestyle”. You would therefore make a case for focusing on the 5 year olds as opposed to older people (prevention rather than cure).
