The required term project is: Each student is to select a major fashion corporation (should be public) and research the following topics: 1. Marketing strategies (describe the various brands that the fashion organization produces or sells and why; discuss the target market strategy and why these customers were chosen – include information on the customers demographics and psychographics). 2. Promotional strategies (describe how the company promotes itself and its merchandise – what forms of media are being used? Here you need to discuss how the fashion organization utilized the various media available to them (advertising, public relations, social media, etc.). Does the organization have a customer loyalty program? 3. Licensing agreements (how licensees are selected, average length of time for licensing agreements, how the fashion organization is compensated, contractual arrangements, how the fashion organization decides what it produces vs. what is licensed, if licensing their name keeps them competitive, etc.) 4. Apparel product lines and prices ranges (is there enough diversity in their product lines/pricing, do they make complementary products for their primary product lines, etc.) 5. Global sourcing strategies (discuss where products are designed, manufactured, and where are they delivered). 6. Production planning and strategies (describe how the fashion organization creates profitable merchandise. For example: do they use cut, make, and trim services where the apparel company provides patterns, fabrics, and trims, and contactor provides labor; or full-package services where contractor provides fabrics, trims, supplies, labor; or other options, such as the apparel company providing the fabric, then cutting and bundling it, and the contractor will sew and trim it. 7. Quality control procedures (describe how quality is achieved and discuss how the organization monitors this). It is important to have a strong thesis paragraph at the beginning of the project and an effective conclusion as the end of the project explaining how effective the fashion organization is in achieving its goals. Please refer to your textbook and class notes while working on this project. You should contact the company either by phone or email and ask them for all available information on the areas described above. If you speak with an executive, please state their name, title, and department in the reference section of your paper. You will also need to locate articles related to the areas noted above. Potential sources for information include, but are not limited to WWD, Business Week, Harvard Business Review, New York Times Business Section, Lexis/Nexis Academic (general database) and Mergent Online (business database). It is important that you use at least seven different references for this project. The resources for information should come from Internet based sources, business magazines, newspapers, magazines, journals, newsletters, and interviews. Visuals (e.g., PowerPoint slides) should accompany the paper and be available for the presentation. This paper should be double-spaced (12 point font, Times New Roman), and be at least 8 to 10 pages in length (not less than 8 pages) using the MLA format for documentation. Any visuals should be included after the written portion of the paper.
