Assignment: Bekoff (2010: 21) writes that it is time for a “paradigm shift;” that it is time to “place animals squarely in the agenda of people all over the world.” Briefly review the argument he poses in The Animal Manifesto, using it as a lead into a self-reflective “plan” for ways in which you might be able to contribute to this new paradigm shift. Provide specific and real examples (minimum of 2)*, and connect or relate them to any course readings**. Be sure to project or hypothesize how your actions could/might influence others (human and nonhuman). Assessment: Qualitative: I will look for “truly” thoughtful essays (e.g., you have taken the self-reflection seriously), and essays that are insightful in connecting self-reflections to class readings/documentaries/discussions.
