Choose two works of modern art, from different movements, to address one of the following themes:
Societal Improvement
Gender issues
Racial Issues
Conflict (War)
Technology
Compare and contrast how each of the works of art reflects the theme. How does each artist take a unique stance when rendering an image pertaining to your selected theme? Include a strong formal analysis of the works of art to argue what you believe to be the artists agendas. Be sure to also include the historical context of what was happening politically, socially, and historically at the time the work of art was created. For example, did you choose to discuss gender issues and one work was from the 19th century, while another was from the 1970s? What was going on societally and how does this affect the work of art? How does each art movement reflect the issues of your selected theme? You must use at least three scholarly sources to research the historical significance of the two works and also to provide background on the artists. Your textbook counts as one source.
